The Open Championship

Pronunciation guide to golf's flagship event in the UK

The Open, often referred to as the British Open outside the UK, is the oldest of the four major championships in professional golf.

It is administered by The R&A and is the only major which us held outside the United States. The Open is currently the third major of the calendar year, following The Masters and the US Open, and preceding the PGA Championship.

The current champion is Zach Johnson, who won the 144th Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews in July 2015. This year's competition takes place at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland.
